VIEHOF COLLECTION
INTERNATIONAL CONTEMPORARY ART
01. October 2016 – 22. January 2017
With the Viehof Collection, the Deichtorhallen Hamburg will be presenting one of the most significant private collections of contemporary art in Germany from 1 October 2016 to 22 January 2017 in two locations, the Hall for Contemporary Art and the Falckenberg Collection in Hamburg-Harburg. Over 600 works by 75 artists will transform the Deichtorhallen into a temporary museum of contemporary art.
The Viehof Collection, which includes significant parts of the Speck Collection and the Rheingold Collection, brings together works from the fields of painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, installations, and video with a focus on German art from the post-war era to today. The exhibition is centered around high-profile groups of works by various artists, including Georg Baselitz, Joseph Beuys, Candida Höfer, Jörg Immendorff, Sigmar Polke, Daniel Richter, and Rosemarie Trockel.
This survey of contemporary art, which consists entirely of works from the collection and was curated by Dirk Luckow, director of the Deichtorhallen, shows the depth of the collection in an unprecedented overview ranging from Minimalism with names such as Carl Andre and Dan Flavin to the 1980s in Cologne, which were shaped by Walter Dahn, Georg Herold, Martin Kippenberger, and Albert Oehlen, as well as the Düsseldorf school of photography with Candida Höfer, Thomas Struth, Thomas Ruff, and Jörg Sasse, and the rising field of figurative 21st-century art with exemplary works by Peter Doig, Neo Rauch, Daniel Richter, Tal R, Corinne Wasmuht, and many others.
Every first Sunday of the month, a free shuttle bus will be offered between the Deichtorhallen and the Falckenberg Collection in Hamburg-Harburg. The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalog published by Snoeck, and a multimedia exhibition guide as well as a special app for children will be available.
